Children’s Book Week is The CBCA’s (Children’s Book Council of Australia) biggest national celebration of the year, and in 2025, it will run from Saturday 16 to Saturday 23 August.

This year’s theme, ‘Book an Adventure!’ invites young readers to journey into new worlds and let their imaginations soar through the magic of stories. 2025 also marks a major milestone – 80 years of Children’s Book Week! For eight decades, the CBCA has inspired generations of young Australians to discover the joy of reading.

To celebrate, we’ll be hosting a range of special activities throughout the week, and our popular bookmark competition is making a return – we can’t wait to see this year’s creative entries.

And of course, it wouldn’t be Book Week without dress-ups! Our library staff love getting into character, and we’d love to see your favourite book-inspired costumes too. Come dressed up when you join us for events or storytime sessions during the week – we’re looking forward to adventuring together through books!

Tips when designing your bookmark:

Dos:

  • Use colour markers, pens, crayon, pastels, paint, bright pencils and/or paper collage
  • Create a drawing related to the topic: Book an Adventure / going on a book adventure or your favourite story
  • Most important of all, have fun!

Don’t:

  • Please don’t add book titles, headings or names to your artwork, we can’t use artwork with words on it
  • Please don’t use faint colours as they are too light for printing eg. light pencil colours or grey lead pencil
How to submit

Submit your design to any Brimbank Libraries branch, or online via the library website.
Please ensure the entrants name, age and library card number have been provided on the form.
