Brimbank Libraries is free and open to everyone. You don’t need to be a resident of Brimbank City Council to be a member.
To join the library you will need proof of your name and current Victorian address.
If you are under 18 you must be joined up by a parent or guardian. However, if you are 16-17 years old and have identification that includes an address you can join the library independently. You will need to visit a library to do so.
You may join the library by visiting any of our five library branches or by signing up for a Brimbank Libraries membership online. Signing up online will give you immediate access to our digital library resources.

Types of Membership
Adult Membership
This Brimbank Libraries membership type provides access to everything we offer, including borrowing physical and digital collection items, using public computers and online resources.
Individuals over the age of 18 with proof of ID and a current Victorian residential address are eligible for an Adult Membership.
Youth/Children
This Brimbank Libraries membership type provides access to everything we offer, including borrowing most physical and digital collection items, public computers and online resources.
A person under the age of 18 must have a parent/carer/guardian agree to be a guarantor by which that person also agrees to:
- take responsibility for any loss or damage to items borrowed by the young member
- understand that the library is not liable for the appropriateness of the young member’s choices
- acknowledge your responsibility for the young member’s internet and Wi-Fi usage
Children aged 10 and above can take home a membership form for a guarantor to sign and return to the library.
A person aged 16–17 years with identification that includes an address can join the library independently.
Members who are younger than 15 years old are not allowed to borrow materials with a classification rating of MA15+ or higher.
Online Memberships are available to individuals aged 16 years and over.
An Online Membership gives you immediate access to our Digital Library and allows you to borrow from both our physical and digital collections.
Online Members can borrow up to five physical items without providing ID. To upgrade to a full individual membership – which allows you to borrow up to 80 items and enjoy all membership benefits – simply visit any library branch and present your ID.
An Organisational Membership offers access to the library’s services and resources and can be used by multiple individuals, provided one person agrees to act as the guarantor and all subsequent users adhere to our membership terms.
Organisational members are also able to borrow an increased limit of 4 toys per card.
To sign up for an Organisational Membership, please complete our online application form.
